Monday was a riot of truffles in Oxbow Market. From organic caramel truffle swirl ice cream at Three Twins, truffle french fries at Gott’s Roadside, and wild mushroom and goat cheese truffle enchiladas at C Casa. Napa Valley Distillery made a bitter sweet cocktail with truffle bitters. Crowds had to make the tough choice of truffle infused Japanese egg omelette at Eiko’s at Oxbow or petite beef Wellington’s with black truffle and wild mushroom mousse. Or they had both. There was a broad sampling of truffles taking place at this gourmet market alongside the Napa River-some were to be expected- Cowgirl Creamery sliced it between their rich, creamy cheese, a classic combination. And Hog Island Oyster Bar served grilled truffle oysters that were sublime.
Crowds were clamoring at Ca’ Momi where Dario De Conti, master pizzaiollo and winemaker, was making black truffle pizza with hand-pulled mozzarella made on-site with rosemary. (This is on the menu until the end of January for $24.00, so you can get your truffle fix until then.) This was paired with their Ca’ Momi Napa Valley Pinot Noir Reserve, a food-friendly earthy pinot that went wonderfully with truffles.
